Green & Gold

Green and gold terracotta, from deep bottle green through to a lighter leaf.

Green needs a longer, steadier firing than red or pink to hold its tone, so fewer sets leave the kiln in this palette than in the warmer colours. The lighter greens are harder still — any unevenness in the clay body shows through a pale coat, so more are set aside before painting.

Hand-rolled beads, sun-dried two days, slow-fired, then finished with antique gold and sealed matte.

Green works particularly well against maroon and mustard silk, and the lighter shades hold up against off-white cotton where a darker set would flatten.
